I spent the past weekend with a group of purpose-driven business owners in Tulum. We nerded out on strategy stuff like funnels, branding, and frameworks—and deeply relaxed and connected in nature. One of my favorite combos. While gazing out over the Caribbean Sea (sorry for the aggressive flex), I was reminded of this beautiful quote that a friend shared with me when I was deciding to leave corporate to start this career coaching business: I was flooded with gratitude for the people in my life who showed me what it looks like to swim out into the metaphorical oceans of their careers—and not just not drown, but really thrive out there. If it weren’t for their examples, I’m not sure I would’ve had the courage to leave the shore and reach this wonderful horizon. People come to me when they’re stuck on the shore. They’re gazing wistfully out at the water. It’s giving Disney Princess Moana, and they know it. They may see the horizon they want, but can’t get past the crashing waves. Or maybe they know that the shore isn’t where they belong, but without a clear direction in a dangerous ocean, staying put feels like the practical choice. Without examples of other successful swimmers, it’s dang near impossible to DIY belief, direction, and strategy. So I wanted to provide some inspiration to get you started. Here are examples of my awesome clients swimming for new horizons:
Feeling inspired? I know I am. If you’re standing on the shore and ready to swim for your new horizon, drop me a note. Onward! P.S. I'm also inspired by everyone who is intentionally making the shore a sustainable place. Not all fulfillment comes from leaving behind the people and places you know best. |

I used to be more bossy. Call it eldest daughter syndrome. Call it soothing anxiety by pretending to know all the answers and have total control over the situation. Call it leadership skills (if I was a boy). These days, I aim to be more of an expert listener, synthesizer, and reflector-backer. A master question-asker and onion-layer-peeler. A scaffolding-builder and interrogator of everything holding you back from what you want. Friends and family often ask how I bite my tongue when a client...
This weekend, between idyllic sun-kissed park hangs, ocean views, and coffee shop chats, I finally faced the reality that my LA home is also host to wildfires and potentially an earthquake so devastating that it simply goes by, “The Big One.” I wrote out my emergency plan and packed a go bag. Some of my friends lovingly roll their eyes at my “prepper” behavior. Others plotted their exit routes immediately after the 2025 wildfires, and are shocked it’s taken me this long. Ultimately I chose...
Are you a “work to live” person? You might pity or roll your eyes at those “live to work” people. While they’ve decided to go full tilt into their careers, you see it as a means to an end. Maybe you used to go harder (better, faster, stronger), but your fuel ran out. Maybe you’ve entered a new phase of life, and your health, relationships, hobbies, or social issues demand center stage. I see you. I’m the “design a career you love” person AND I believe we all must “work to live.” Because work...
