Let's get this out of the way: There's no such thing as a perfect career. There's no single job or path that provides 24/7 positive energy and early retirement. There are actually infinite incredible work choices available to you at any given moment! But you will not see or seize them until you drop the illusion of perfection. So with love: put down the Scantron, former A+ student turned ladder-climbing executive. And loosen your white-knuckle grip on that outdated definition of success. You know, the one that "society" or "your dad" or "capitalism" instilled in you. Is it really yours? Does it hold up as technology evolves, the labor market shifts, and you move through life? I know your career is so damn important. At minimum, your work funds your freedom. At best, it's a major source of meaning, structure, and connection. So of course you want to do it right. But there’s a difference between knowing that perfection is a toxic illusion and actually releasing it so you can take intentional steps. That’s the gap where passionate powerhouses get stuck. That gap has a distinctive shape—and a way through. The way through isn't scrolling on LinkedIn. We start upstream. Before we ever talk about your next promotion, pivot, or business plan—or decide that staying sustainably is the move—we do something that our anxiety and discomfort with the unknown may want us to skip: We get you sorted first. That means ensuring you’ve got a strong foundation of health and happiness so that you can be your most calm, creative self and give perfectionism the middle finger. From there, we get clear on:
Only then do we generate what I call Career Concepts—hypothetical paths that satisfy all three—and test them against the real world. What’s viable in the market? What’s truly exciting? Then we pick the best-fit direction and take intentional steps to bring it to life. That's what the Career Spark Engine is all about. We’re not endlessly navel-gazing, nor taking breakneck action without reflection. It’s expert coaching and my signature framework—grounded in psychology, creative problem-solving, and real-world execution. And it’s my joy as a fellow recovering perfectionist to help you design a career you love. Take a look. If it resonates, drop me a note. Onward! P.S. Are you or someone in your world a federal employee exploring a pivot into the private sector? Join me and my cousin Jessica (former EPA, FEMA) for the Federal to Private: Career Design Workshop on June 12th at 12pm ET on Zoom. |

“Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.” Are you enthusiastically nodding? Or is your BS-o-Meter blaring? Honestly, I’m somewhere in the middle! Like most oversimplified quotes dubiously attributed to Confucius, the truth is in the nuance. This has been the mission of my coaching practice since day one: Design a career you love This is the ROI that I promise to my clients. And I take that promise seriously. As a data nerd who measures success by real impact on real...
I know you’re not here because you want more emails. You’re here because you’re a passionate powerhouse. A heart-driven high-achiever who cares deeply and is motivated to make a meaningful impact in and out of work. But… Something’s off in your career, and you’re feeling it Maybe: Your signature passionate powerhouse energy is zapped You don’t feel equipped for today’s labor market, political landscape, or AI disruption Your priorities shifted (family, health, projects) but work is still...
I used to be more bossy. Call it eldest daughter syndrome. Call it soothing anxiety by pretending to know all the answers and have total control over the situation. Call it leadership skills (if I was a boy). These days, I aim to be more of an expert listener, synthesizer, and reflector-backer. A master question-asker and onion-layer-peeler. A scaffolding-builder and interrogator of everything holding you back from what you want. Friends and family often ask how I bite my tongue when a client...
