Can you actually love your career (or is that BS)?

“Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.”

Are you nodding? Or is your BS-o-Meter blaring?

Honestly, I’m somewhere in the middle. Like most oversimplified quotes dubiously attributed to Confucius, the truth is in the nuance.

This has been the mission of my coaching practice since the beginning:

Design a career you love ✨

And because my worst fear is sounding like a snake oil salesperson, I spend a lot of time unpacking what “love” actually means in the context of work.

Because doing work you love doesn’t guarantee fair pay, or shield you from mundane-to-excruciating tasks. Because loving (and overly identifying with) your work can fast-track burnout. Because the hope that your perfectionism and people-pleasing will magically disappear once you find “work you love” is a mirage.

And perhaps most importantly: because the concept of “love” puts the burden on you, instead of questioning the systems that make work so soul-sucking in the first place.

A career you love is one you intentionally choose ✨

The most valuable thing folks get from career coaching is agency within these messy systems.

Yes, my clients land dream jobs, start businesses, and pivot to better roles.

Yes, my clients carve out more time and energy for health, relationships, and passion projects.

But the biggest win is understanding themselves more deeply—their desires, needs, and Achilles’ heels—and unpacking not just the systems, but their relationships to them. So they can move forward with clarity and power. Not just in this next step, but for the rest of their career.

“The world seems more full of possibility. I’m in control of my destiny.”
—Engineer & Writer

“I landed a job I enjoy, where I feel fulfilled and motivated every day.”
—Leader at IBM

“The best investment I’ve made for my career.”
—Engineer & Educator

“Grace was an invaluable guide during a major transition in my career.”
—Strategy & Operations Leader

“Grace helped me find the confidence to make a career pivot.”
—Project Manager to Business Owner

“I’m grateful for a career that’s exciting, purposeful, and right for me.”
—Education to Design

Selfishly, I want you to love your career! Because when passionate powerhouses like you move through the world with agency and energy, you launch products, lead movements, and create art that pushes the world forward. Yes, even in #LateStageCapitalism.

True love for your career starts here ✨

You don’t have to keep spinning or figure it out alone.

This chat is all about exploring what’s best for you. No “pitch slap,” I promise. If it feels like a fit, we’ll book a follow-up to discuss working together.

Onward!

Today’s newsletter is a virtual hug. If you’re feeling energized and locked in as you return to work this week, let’s celebrate! If you don’t feel that way (and maybe feel envy or skepticism toward those who do), this message is for you. While I don’t know exactly what moves you need to make in 2026 to gain energy and momentum, I do know this with 100% confidence: you’re not stuck. Tomorrow can be better. This hug is specifically designed to melt shame. It’s hard enough sensing that...

‘Tis the season when I fly from sunny LA to my brisk New York hometown, perform a song like O Holy Night with my dad at the Christmas Eve church service, listen to a sermon about Jesus’ birth, then head home with my family to enjoy babka, light the menorah (depending on the dates), and pick our Chinese food and movie for the following day. This all makes perfect sense to me. Yet, I often find myself explaining it to folks with cocked heads, trying to parse how someone named Grace could be a...

Happy Thanksgiving, American readers! If you’re vibing on your day off, don’t let me interrupt. If you’re wrapping up that last task, jotting down an idea that hit you while cooking, or using this ping-free time to do some strategic thinking, enjoy. But if your brain is racing at 1K mph about work while you’re trying to be present with your loved ones, let’s have a quick chat and get you outta the spin cycle. We’ve gotta notify your brain that it’s not only okay—but actually good—to put work...
