Do I practice what I preach? 🙏

On Monday, I looked at my calendar and blurted out, “Ugh, I’m obsessed with this week!” Far cry from my stress-filled Subway commutes, back when I was a walking bag of cortisol.

I coach people to design careers they love.

I shouldn’t be in business if I don’t have a career that I love—and continually iterate as I grow and the world shifts.

So what made me audibly celebrate my week? Well…

  • My clients are ridiculously cool. Kicked off the week with a creative tech wiz, a comms prof, a writer/producer, and an architect.
  • Ran a “Make Work Sustainable” workshop for Tech Ladies®. The kind I wish I had years ago, and now get to lead.
  • Carved out heads-down time to revamp my “Create Your LinkedIn & Resume in ONE WEEK” guide. Gonna save me (and my clients) sooo much time.
  • Joined a Q&A with The Courage Crew on blending passion + paycheck (my favorite topic!) and caught up with participants about their goals.
  • Reconnecting with two former colleagues who are now generously mentoring some of my clients on their pivots.

Man, if I could share this with 2021 Grace. She was lusting after this career in her journal...

But designing a career you love isn’t just about flowy, feel-good work.

It’s also about making an impact, funding your life, and having energy for non-work life.

Let’s check in on that too:

Impact
💪 Career pivoter went from “directionless and overwhelmed” to having “a clear vision of my next step" in 3 months
💪 Nonprofit exec got buy-in from her boss and skip-level director on a well-earned comp bump and title change.
💪 Education leader landed a values-aligned role at a dream institution: “I couldn’t have done this without you!”

Money
💰 Highest-earning Q1 ever, followed by my highest-earning month
💰 Quick trip to NY for my brother’s baby shower (lack of $ flexibility was one of my biggest fears about leaving W2 life.)
💰 Rent is going up, and my health insurance isn’t covering routine breast cancer screenings—and that’s fine. I can cover it.

Non-Work
✨ Wearing a glittery jumpsuit to a Studio 54-themed birthday party
✨ Writing a new, upbeat dance-y song—a fun departure from my emo ballads from yore. Art imitates life.
✨ Friend (and now a breathwork trainee) came over for a session and dinner. Deeply cathartic and nourishing.

If it sounds like I’m flexing, I am.

Because I’m here today thanks to people who had the audacity to flex and show me what was possible.

P.S. Because I refuse to proselytize some “perfect career” fantasy, here’s some non-flex-worthy stuff:

  • My upstairs neighbor’s bidet exploded and flooded my bathroom. Maintenance showed up while I was presenting.
  • Spent 3 hours on a social post… and it flopped. Still practicing showing up authentically and detaching from outcomes.
  • A potential client I admire chose a more specialized coach.
  • The job market is tough (especially in certain sectors) and constantly shifting. That impacts how I support my clients—both in the strategies and tactics we use, and in how I stay encouraging without being delusional.
  • On a related note: I read the news regularly to stay informed (for myself and my clients), but a lot of it makes me nauseous. Still figuring out how to stay grounded while staying aware.

This weekend, between idyllic sun-kissed park hangs, ocean views, and coffee shop chats, I finally faced the reality that my LA home is also host to wildfires and potentially an earthquake so devastating that it simply goes by, “The Big One.” I wrote out my emergency plan and packed a go bag. Some of my friends lovingly roll their eyes at my “prepper” behavior. Others plotted their exit routes immediately after the 2025 wildfires, and are shocked it’s taken me this long. Ultimately I chose...

Are you a “work to live” person? You might pity or roll your eyes at those “live to work” people. While they’ve decided to go full tilt into their careers, you see it as a means to an end. Maybe you used to go harder (better, faster, stronger), but your fuel ran out. Maybe you’ve entered a new phase of life, and your health, relationships, hobbies, or social issues demand center stage. I see you. I’m the “design a career you love” person AND I believe we all must “work to live.” Because work...

Does anyone else feel like cults are in the zeitgeist right now? Between the slew of Netflix documentaries, increasingly tribal politics, and the expanding influencer industry, I’m seeing more experts step forward to explain how smart, capable people can get drawn into coercive systems. I was listening to Dr. Steven Hassan, a prominent expert on cults, on Trevor Noah’s podcast this weekend. He was describing the psychology of high-control groups—how members shift beliefs, behaviors, even...
